FAQ - Development Background
How did RCD get involved in Fairfax?
The idea for an affordable housing development at this site was initiated by the property's current owner, Christ Lutheran Church, in 2012. As the size of Church's congregation began to decrease, Church leadership decided that their property could be better used to serve disadvantaged people with a severe need for housing. Through a competitive process, Christ Lutheran Church selected RCD to develop affordable housing for low-income seniors on the site of the Church. While the original iteration of this development, known as Peace Village, included the Church and an elementary school on site along with senior affordable housing, the vision for the site has since been reoriented with the Church and school buildings being demolished and new housing located on that portion of the land.
How was the name 'Victory Village' determined?
Christ Lutheran Church is formerly known as Christ the Victor Lutheran Church. Church leaders selected the name 'Victory Village' so that the legacy of the Church was reflected in the new affordable housing development.
